Secrets of the stars ~ Do you have a yoga mentor?

The great body is the BONUS in yoga. I’ve been spending most of my social media time on Instagram (I’m Stephanieyogini there). I love all of my supportive #igyogafamily ~ and admire and am #inspired by the challenges. I love seeing the yogamom pics with kids and all the #igdogs posing on #yoga mats. I’m so lucky that the yoga community is my constant companion.

I was inspired to write this post because of a follower on Instagram. She asked me what I would write for “fabulousasana”.

I grew up with Twiggy. I did NOT look like Twiggy, EVER… I was such a tomboy and was teased all the time because I had “arms like a boy”. Now everyone thinks my arms are great. I now claim athlete as a title, thought it did take me running a marathon to feel like a real athlete. I AM.

My family of origin taught me all the WRONG things about my body. Trauma and abuse was mixed with shame and guilt. I never felt comfortable in my skin UNTIL I found yoga.

YOGA has been my greatest lifelong healthy companion. I’ve practiced yoga now for 35 years. I love my body. I feel sexy, confident and vibrant. Moving my body and #breathing gives me ability to #THRIVE.

Growing up I did not have anyone to look to as a great role model of what 50+ looked like. Then Jane Fonda started sweating. Have you seen Jane lately? She looks FABULOUS (at 77 thank you very much). Yes, she has a yoga video…

Madonna has also been a great role model. I’ve been going to her concerts since I was pregnant with my first child, 24 years ago. Yes, she does yoga…

Do you have a mentor? Do you have someone to look up to that you want to be like 20 years from now? If not, I highly suggest you look for that person. They don’t even have to know they are your mentor. If at all possible, find one you want to be like and ask them how they are charting they’re life.

I’m so grateful my “mentors” were yoga teachers. My first was a man, but at least I could see that taking care of myself ~ spiritually, emotionally, physically, intellectually and challenging myself daily in a healthy way ~ would pay off long term.

Good luck ~ Let me know how it goes. Namaste ~ Stephanie
